The New Designer that Every Celebrity Wants to Wear?

As we know, when it comes to celebrities, there's ALWAYS a new fashion discovery. Their stamp of approval easily catapults new designers to "stardom." Read on, for more about this pretty collection.

There's a new label on Hollywood's lips, and it's already a big hit on the red carpet. Self Portrait, created by designer Han Chong, was launched a year ago and has already been worn by Kristen Stewart, Reese Witherspoon and Kerry Washington. Think of the pieces as feminine, floaty confections that wouldn't be out of place at a wedding, a garden party or an evening out. His pieces are so popular in fact, that they promptly sold out 15 hours after launching on Net-a-Porter, while the Azeala Spring 2015 dress is currently sold out at every retailer, and has a waiting list.

Chong began his label a year ago after graduating from Saint Martin's, but has always had a love for fashion. "I grew up in Penang, which is an island of Malaysia. There was nothing there really in terms of fashion. I was always creative as a child and really into art. I think subconsciously I always had a fondness for clothes and fashion.

" Those images you get of charming garden parties upon seeing his dresses isn't just a coincidence, "Growing up, my family would go to a lot of weddings and I was always excited by the buzz of getting ready for them," Chong explains, "Seeing my mum, grandma, aunts and sisters dressed up fascinated me. I saw how the process of wearing a special dress or outfit could really change someone's attitude." After studying art and design in Kuala Lumpar, Chong was inspired by his teacher's tales of fashion and life in London, and journeyed to the city to study fashion.

Fast-forward a few years, and Chong's Pre-Fall collection (available now in stores), was inspired by fabrications that represented femininity. "We played a bit with transparency but in our style through checkered organza and silks," says Chong. "My process always starts with the fabrication first, then I think about the silhouette." The pieces are reminiscent of Valentino and ChloĆ© in sentiment, featuring plenty of lace, cut outs and intricate details. Perfect for the star in all of us.
